Introducing Rooted in Expression: A New Way to Say What Words Can't

As Rooted in Presence approaches its first anniversary on October 1st, I've been reflecting on everything this practice has grown into, and one of the offerings I'm most excited about is a new monthly class I've been developing: Rooted in Expression.

Some feelings don't come out easily in words. You might know something is there, a tightness in your chest, a memory that surfaces out of nowhere, a part of you that feels unseen, but sitting down to explain it in a sentence can feel impossible. That's exactly where Rooted in Expression comes in.

What Is Rooted in Expression?

Rooted in Expression is a monthly, in-person class that blends somatic awareness, parts-based self-exploration, and expressive arts. It's built around the three components of Ellen Rebecca Geis's Express Yourself class: intuitive sound, movement, and art-making, to help you express feelings that are hard to put into words.

This is important to name clearly: this class is about personal growth and community building, not clinical treatment. It's a space to explore, create, and connect, not a substitute for therapy.

What Makes This Class Distinct

Alongside intuitive sound, movement, and art-making, Rooted in Expression offers two optional layers for those who want to go deeper:

  • An invitation to notice which part of yourself is present and expressing itself that day.

  • Simple body-based tools, like different tapping movements, for those who want to deepen the somatic layer of the work.

You're made up of many parts, and each one deserves a way to be expressed. In this class, you'll practice body-based mindfulness tools like breath and tapping, and you'll be guided to express yourself through intuitive sound, movement, writing, and art-making. If you'd like to go deeper, you're invited to notice which part of you shows up that day and let it guide your creative process.

No creative arts skills are required, and all materials are provided.
