Introducing the Rooted Method: The Framework Behind Everything I Do
As Rooted in Presence approaches its first anniversary on October 1st, I've been reflecting on the thread that ties everything in this practice together. That thread has a name now: the Rooted Method.
If you've worked with me, taken one of my classes, or read a few posts on this blog, you've likely already experienced pieces of it, even if you didn't know there was a name for it. This post is about naming that framework clearly and showing you where you can practice it.

What Is the Rooted Method?
The Rooted Method is my integrative approach to healing, blending Internal Family Systems (IFS) theory with practical skills (CBT, DBT, ACT), expressive arts therapy, EMDR, and mindfulness. Rather than only managing symptoms, it works at the root of what's keeping you stuck, helping you shift old beliefs, soften reactivity, and build a lasting sense of self-trust.
At its core, the Rooted Method rests on a simple idea: you are made up of many parts, and healing happens when those parts are understood, not fought.
The Pillars of the Rooted Method
Internal Family Systems (IFS): Understanding the different "parts" of you, like the inner critic, the people-pleaser, the protector, and building a compassionate relationship with each one.
Practical skills (CBT, DBT, ACT): Concrete tools to help you navigate anxiety, reactivity, and hard emotions in the moment.
Expressive arts: Creative practices like sound, movement, and art-making to access what's hard to put into words.
EMDR, including the butterfly hug: A gentle approach to processing stuck experiences and shifting old patterns.
Mindfulness: Present-moment awareness and nervous system regulation as the foundation for everything else.
Where the Rooted Method Comes to Life
The Rooted Method isn't just a philosophy, it's the foundation for the offerings I've built at Rooted in Presence:
Meet Your Parts
A virtual therapy group where you'll connect with different parts of yourself, deepen your sense of self, and come home to wholeness, using the full blend of skills, expressive arts, EMDR, and mindfulness that make up the Rooted Method.
Rooted in Expression
A monthly, in-person class blending somatic awareness, parts-based self-exploration, and expressive arts, intuitive sound, movement, and art-making, to help you express feelings that are hard to put into words. This class is about personal growth and community building, not clinical treatment.
Both offerings draw from the same root system, just expressed in different ways: one as a therapy group, one as a community class.
Why I Built It This Way
Healing rarely happens through just one lens. Talk alone doesn't always reach what's stored in the body. Skills alone don't always reach what's protected by an exiled part. Art alone doesn't always shift a deeply held belief. The Rooted Method exists because real, lasting change usually asks for more than one doorway in.
